eddiemagee: I'm not gonna turn down a random follower but I gotta ask you why?

You gotta ask me why… why… what?

haley-thehuman: Hello! I was just searching online for shits and giggles to look into internships and job opportunities in Switzerland for graphic design and I came across your post... I'm sorry but I don't even know the website. But. I was wondering if you had had any luck? After graduation, I plan on moving to Switzerland where I have friends and obviously want to pursue a career in Design. I was just excited to hear about someone taking a similar route and would like to know what you have found out. Thanks!

Hey Haley!

Hm… interesting. Yes, I am currently looking for a design job in Europe, though I’ve more so been interested in places in Germany.

However, I did start searching a bit in Switzerland as well (you might have seen my post on a Lonely Planet forum, or ToytownGermany). Though, realistically, I found that it would be pretty difficult to obtain a position as an American in Switzerland unless you were AMAZING at graphic design and had a ton of experience. Europe has sort of an agreement as well between the countries that they must consider all other EU applicants before taking on anyone else with a foreign work permit.

At the moment, I’m looking in Hamburg, Germany. I’ve had a lot of success (praise God) in making connections here in the city. So far, a few companies have really been interested in my work. One offered me a job contract, but there are also a lot of legal requirements to get someone hired (paperwork/permits/residence/etc.).

I can write you a more thorough account of the process when I have a bit more time (if you’d like). Just let me know. At the moment, I have to actually meet a business contact that could lead to a full-time job here in Germany. In the mean time, you can also view more of my work (and what I’ve been sending out to companies in Europe) at seanloomis.com

Hope you’re well and thanks for the message!
